Interview with Dimension
Wednesday, 31 October 2007 Finally!!! As we promised, here is an amazing interview we did with David Quicho from DIMENSION. In exclusive, he talks a little bit about how the band was formed, their songs, as well as future plans of the band. Thanks a lot !!!! 1. - Can you tell us How Dimension was born? back in 1997 I was on tour all over Mexico with a power/prog metal - band called “perturbador“, and at the end of the tour early 1998 a couple of members left the band, at that time my drummer and I moved to Dallas TX. And we started to write new songs in a little bit more progressive way, and finally, Dimension was born in October 1999, and what we wanted to do at the time was to build a platform to express our ideological and musical ideas, trying to develop a different concept in the Prog- Metal scene, the one we are still working on.
2. - What are your music influences in general for all of you? I think our musical influences are basically progressive, rock and metal bands, from old to new stuff.
(Too many to mention).
3. - Can you tell us a little bit about the concept of your new album? Actually the main album’s concept is about the dark side of human “Ego”, we are talking about humanism, politics, success, money, pleasure and even god, and some other philosophical ideas within “Ego” concept.
4. - We know your album is coming out soon, what can all the fans expect to hear? I thing they’re going to hear a heavier, deeper and darker side of Dimension, but at the same time it could be more progressive, melodic and easy to listen.
5. - We also know you are a new Nightmare Records artist, could you tell us something about it? Yeah!, Actually we just signed up with Nightmare Records and we are very happy to be part of the Nightmare’s family, as you know Nightmare is getting stronger in US, Europe and all over the place, so we think we are on the right place at the right time and with the right company. I believe Nightmare Records in the near future is going to be a real nightmare out there.
6. - From where come the inspiration of the music and lyrics? Our inspiration comes from everyday life, all the things we see, all the things we hear, all the things we feel and the things we believe, all of those are the elements we use to bring alive our music and lyrics.
7. - What is your vision of the Progressive - Metal scene in general today? Well, right now progressive metal music is very popular. Actually is getting mainstream, which is good for all the new bands out there, but at the same time it could be dangerous because it’s been really hard to find the authentic ones.
8.- Does the band members have any side projects? Yeah, In fact next month ill be producing and recording guitars for Mane’s solo album (www.myspace.com/manecabrales ) that i think is going to be a blast, it will be an instrumental project with great guest musicians such as T.j Helmerich (quid pro quo, uncle moe’s space ranch, planet x ), Brett Garsed (quid pro quo, paul stanley, planet x), and more… it will be out early summer next year.
9. - Please tell us what gear do you use to play? Please give us details about your guitars, amps, effects, etc... Well, what I basically use is a couple of dual rectifier amps by Mesa Boogie, a triaxis pre-amp by Mesa Boogie, 2 mesa recto cabs with celestion vintage-30 speakers, a effects processor G major by TC electronic, a mpx-1 effects processor by Lexicon, a tuner dtr- 2 by Korg, a couple of power supply’s by Furman, a Jim Dunlop wah, and a whammy pedal by Digitech, I also use Universe and RG 7 strings guitars by Ibanez, a couple of Fender guitars and .009 D’addario strings .
10. - What are the future plans for the band? We’re going to be working in the new video (The next in line), and we are also writing the songs for the next album that hopefully is going to be out late 2008.
