Formed in 1994, the progressive rock band Khallice started its career covering bands such as Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.
In 1995, Khallice began to write their own songs from which four were chosen for their first demo tape in portuguese.
In 1996, Mario Linhares, a renewed singer of the band Dark Avenger, joined the band, and the lyrics began to be written in english. After that, the band recorded “Madman Lullaby”, an English version for “Balada do Louco” (70´s hit from the world famous brazilian band Mutantes), released in a Tribute CD to Arnaldo Baptista (former Mutantes member). At the time, the song was very well complimented by Baptista himself and the specialized press.
The band also released its second demo, Prophecy, which was very well received by the local audience, fanzines and magazines from all over Brazil.
In 1997, Linhares left the band, and Khallice passed through a two years period out of stage.
In 1999, Alirio Netto, a professional singer who was performing the roll of Jesus in the brazilian version of Broadway’s Jesus Christ Superstar, was invited to join the band. With Netto, the band finished writing the material for their first album.
In 2001, Netto had settled in México, invited to join the original mexican cast of Jesus Christ Superstar. Simultaneously, keyboardist Bruno Wambier started touring with the brazilian mainstream reggae band Natiruts.
Still in 2001, Khallice reached the top position as the most downloaded progressive metal band at mp3.com for two months.
When Netto returned to Brazil, the band finally established its line up with: Marcelo Barbosa (guitar), Alirio Netto (vocals), Michel Marciano (bass), César Zolhof (drums), Renato Gomes and Bruno Wambier (keyboards).
All Khallice members are professional musicians and music teachers with huge experience in different styles of music such as Jazz, Pop, Classical, and Bossa nova. For them, music is, literally, the reason of their lives. The Khallice founder Marcelo Barbosa is a renewed guitarist in Brazil, who also writes articles to specialized magazines. Barbosa is the owner of GTR Guitar and Music Institute, which is one of the most respected music schools in Latin America.
Finally in 2003, the first album THE JOURNEY (indie) was released. It was recorded from november/2001 to august/2002 at Zen Studios Brasília, produced by Bruno Wambier and Marcelo Barbosa, and mastered by Guilherme Bonolo (former producer of Raimundos, a brazilian mainstream hardcore band).
THE JOURNEY fresh tunes and rebuilt versions of songs written since the beginning of the band, revealed a very passionate, high quality work done by well experienced musicians.
The album presents nine killer tracks featuring very special guests from Brasília. Also “Madman Lullaby”, as the 10th song of the album, is available for download at the official web site: www.khallice.com.br
For the official THE JOURNEY release, the band decided to produce a very special concert, playing with one of the most renewed rock bands in Brazil, DR. SIN. Right after that, Khallice started to play at audiences for about 50,000 people in music festivals like Porão do Rock 2003, and the Brasília Music Festival (BMF), sharing the stage with artists such as Alanis Morissete, Simply Red and Live.
The first press of THE JOURNEY was sold out in less than six months, which is quite an achievement for an independent album. In the beginning of 2004, the band signed with the label Hellion Records for a new release of the album THE JOURNEY, not only in Brazil, but in Europe and other countries of South America as well.
After a few concerts in Brasília, the band started touring in the south of Brazil, playing in cities like Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Lages and Criciúma. At July of 2004, the band is going to play at Porão do Rock 2004.
A new album is expected for 2005 and the band has already started to work on new songs.
The name Khallice has got stronger and the band is now considered the most promising prog metal band not only in Brazil, but in the whole world.
