First of
all, I must admit that even though I am a regular listener of European
progressive metal bands this Italian group was not on my daily list of “things to hear”. I’ve listened to it very
carefully, track by track, and came to the conclusion that it is not (for my
opinion at least) a new masterpiece, but it certainly got the chance to enter
into my personal list.
The album
starts with two powerful songs (Hereafter and Enhancements) that caught me
right away. The internal tracks (3 to 7) of the album are quite linear, mixing
nice voices and keyboards arrangements but was hard for me to differentiate
them from each other. Than, from out of nothing, started track 8, Heartache,
which is clearly the best song on the entire album. It has everything a
progressive song must have: amazing arrangements in almost every instrument
(voices included).
But what
starts well not ever ends in the same direction (quoting an old saying of my country): track 9 and 11
were hard to define. The first one (Rest in peace) was really simple and the
second (Fading and falling) an avoidable
ballad. I believe a good album like this should deserve to end better, maybe
with track 10 (Brand new blood) which is the second best song on the album.
A final
conclusion: If you enjoy listening to new things this CD is not for you; but,
if on the other hand, you enjoy listening to good prog music with nice
instrumental parts you may give these guys a shot.
