Transatlantic – The
Whirlwind (2009) – Review by Logan Lee

…And the long waiting period is finally
finished…The fantastic four (for me superheroes in all senses) have prepared
another masterpiece for their faithful fans. Transatlantic is back after a long,
very long, eight years pause. But…WOW…Whirlwind is a pleasure to my senses (and
how could it be different when you put together Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Pete
Trewavas and Roine Stolt in one single project?).
Just
to be clear: the “Bridge Across Forever” is one of my favourite all time
albums, but I was not expecting an album just like it. I was, in fact, waiting
for something different and yet as great as their first two albums. As I first
start listening to it (the day after its release) some ideas came to my mind
and topping the list was the certain that I was listening to another great
album. The first part is a single song, The Whirlwind, divided in 12 tracks (a
concept album, just like the other great 2009 release, The Incident from
Porcupine Tree), which alone worth the expense and there’s also a disc 2
containing some quite interesting cover songs and other material left aside
from The Whirlwind. |
